Farmers markets in Ludlow, Leominster, Hereford, Abergavenny, Malvern. Mail order or from farm by arrangement.
Description:
The Tudges rear free-range Berkshire pigs and chickens reared without antibiotics, growth promoters or GM products on their family farm. They sell sausages, bacon, ham, pork and chickens.
Reasons for recommendation:
A prime example of a traditional, high-quality, local product reared and processed on a family farm. The pigs and chickens are all raised on the farm in genuinely free-range conditions and their meat tastes of true pork or chicken without artificial added flavours. At the markets you will always be served by a member of the family who has been involved in the whole production process and can advise about cooking methods etc. Kate Norman |

Clive Davis uses the premises of Bakers Cafe on Friday and Saturday evenings to run, and cook for, a small restaurant with a limited, changing menu of freshly-cooked, Mediterranean-style food. |
Reasons for recommendation:
The Green Cafe represents to me exactly what Slow Food is about. Quality ingredients, locally sourced (details of provenance are given on the back of the menu), cooked fairly simply and tasting delicious. The Green Cafe is just right for a convivial evening with friends with relaxed but professional service led by Clive's wife, a wine list from a local Slow Food member who imports from small prodcuers, and very reasonable prices.
