Slow Food Taste Workshops

   Slow Food Ludlow invites you to  join us at Ludlow Food & Drink Festival for this years exciting programme of taste workshops. Taste workshops are of approximately 45 minutes to one hour’s duration and include  expert guidance and generous tastings .

Friday 12th September

12.30-The Eating Qualities of Hereford Beef

As one of the oldest British native bred cattle, Herefords produce the finest beef from the most natural and simple of foods Ð grass. The result is succulent and tender meat with a delicious flavour.  Come and try!     Includes a glass of  local cider  £8 members, £10 non-members

2.30-Born to be Wild

Explore the abundant game of the Shropshire countryside with Chris Woodward of Hopton Court. Local, healthy and inexpensive, these are flavours waiting to be discovered and you will try some delicious dishes  using a range of game including pheasant, venison and squirrel. Accompanied by  a glass of wine.-£8 members, £10 non members

4.30 Afternoon Tea from the Orchard
 As Slow Food launches its Heritage Orchards campaign, enjoy a delightful afternoon tea using products from Worcestershire's Orchards - apples, pears, damsons and plums - while learning about the rich variety of fruits traditionally grown within the county and the issues facing this important aspect of our heritage.  Served with a cup of tea    . £5 members,£ 6.50 non-members

6.30 Fine wines from the Languedoc

 A chance to try six quality wines from the South of France including AOCs Faugeres and St. Chinian. The tutored tasting session will be led by the president  of the Slow Food convivium ‘Terrasses du Languedoc’, and will be accompanied by finger foods  £12 members, £14 non-members

Saturday 13th September

12.30 Food for Thought.

Michelin starred chef Alan Murchison of L’Ortolan, and also of La Becasse in Ludlow, takes you through a tutored  exploration of six dishes designed to  stimulate discussion about  taste and flavour. Accompanied by a glass of local perry.  £13 members £15 non-members,

2.30 Real Chicken

 Mark Lloyd returns after a stint at River Cottage and explains why good chicken is good value if you know how to use it to full advantage. Delicious flavours using  organic and free range birds, accompanied by local cider.   £8 members ,£10 non-members

4.30 Ice Cream Heaven.

 Led by two leading ice cream producers Rachel Hicks of Just Rachel and Juliet Noble of Shepherds. Discover the delights of  real local ice cream  and compare the differences in ewes and cows  milk ice cream. £4 members, £5  non-members

 

6.30 New Wines from the Old World - Puglia, the Heel of Italy
Harlington Wines, the local ethical wine agent and importer ,  are bringing over a wine producer from Azienda Vinicola Terra del Galeso in Taranto, Puglia for this workshop on   delicious wines from the heel of Italy, accompanied by early evening nibbles  £12 member, £14 non-members

 

Sunday 14th September

10.30 Slow Breakfast

 Chef Mark Lloyd cooks up the best in a locally sourced breakfast tasting. An informed and delicious start to your day accompanied by useful local sourcing hints. Served with tea and local tomato juice£6  members, £8 non members

12.30 Slow Sunday lunch.

 Local chef Clive Davis  uses Slow Food Presidium rare breed Gloucester Beef  to focus on the elements of this most traditional of meals, accompanied by a glass of red wine. Presidium products are identified by Slow Food as particularly rare,special, and worthy of support  £10  member, £12  non-members

2.30 Slow Bread

Master Baker Paul Merry, formerly of the Village Bakery, shares his expertise- discover how bread should taste. This workshop  is part of Slow Foods Slow Bread campaign campaign   £4  members , £5 non-members
